Shoulder Strips City, State, Council
Council identification patches prior to 1972 are called a city, state, or council strips.
Councils started to identify themselves on the uniforms in the 1930s. Boys would wear the name of the city they were from and the state on the top of the left sleeve of the uniform shirt. Councils and some districts also made shoulder strips in the early years. Council adopted a larger strip in the 1960s. Shoulder strips prior to 1960 were also made on the same color of material as the uniform they were being put on.
